Why should I wax rather than shave?

Waxing pulls hair out at the root causing it to grow back more slowly with a finer texture and  less density than before. Shaving simply cuts the hair requiring more frequent maintenance with little impact on the volume or texture of the hair.

While laser hair removal or electrolysis may offer a more permanent solution, treatments are often far more expensive than waxing and do not work on all hair types.

How much does waxing hurt?

Pain is subjective.  Some people have a greater tolerance for pain than others. The technique and type of wax used at Bare Cactus is designed to maximize your comfort. If you are concerned about sensitivity during your appointment, taking an ibuprofen or aspirin approximately 30 minutes before your appointment can help improve your comfort. A key tip to remember—the more frequently you wax, the less sensitive you will be because your hair will be finer and sparser.

How long does waxing last?

Waxing generally offers one to two weeks of silky, smooth, hair-free skin.

How do I prepare for my waxing appointment?

You should ensure your skin is in healthy condition for waxing and that the hair is long enough to be effectively waxed (approximately ¼ inch long for body hair and can be slightly shorter for facial hair). Exfoliate the day before your appointment and keep your skin well-moisturized in the week leading up to your visit.

What kind of wax do you use?

Cirepil Blue hard wax is applied for sensitive areas, such as the face, bikini area and underarms. For less sensitive areas, like the arms, legs, chest, and back, Cirepil Ease soft wax is applied.

How do I choose a "style" for my bikini wax?

Bikini wax style is all about preference. Your esthetician can help you understand the options available to help you find the right style for you.

Will my hair grow back thicker or darker after waxing?

Actually, quite the opposite. Waxed hair is removed at the root; therefore, it grows back softer and finer with each waxing session.

What medications are contraindicated with waxing?

Retin-A, Renova, Accutane and similar medications increase the rate at which your skin exfoliates making it possible to remove skin with the hair when waxing. If you are on any medications, consult your doctor before waxing and let your esthetician know so she can take proper precautions.
